Project Goal:

The goal of the project was to redesign a label for Honey Brand, to make it more visually appealing and noticeable for the customers. One of the main challenges in this project was the requirement to keep all the text and information unchanged.

Brainstorming:

Before proceeding with the redesign, first I needed to identify all the issues in the original design and to do some research.

Issues with the original design:

- It’s challenging to identify the brand name of the product.
- Disorganized in terms of placement of the text. Makes it difficult to read and find any important information.
- Plain, there are no graphics or illustrations. Makes it boring and it won’t catch the eye of the customer.
- Lack of hierarchy, which can hinder the message the brand is trying to communicate to the customers.

See the picture of the original design below:

All the above issues will make this product not noticeable for the customers, even if the product itself is good. But isn’t the whole purpose of the packaging design to make customers notice the product and influence their decision? Moreover, great packaging design enhances brand recognition and contributes to overall marketing success.

Drafting & Designing:

After the research was completed and issues identified, I began drafting my ideas, and then turning them into the final design.

- First, I added the mountain outlines, and added text “Wild Mountain” at the top, and at the bottom “Honey”, which I converted to outlines in Illustrator, and hand-drawn the honey drops dripping from the text. I also created a bee illustration and added it there. This decision made the brand name stand out, and the added illustrations will catch the eye of the customers.

- To address the requirement to keep all the text and information unchanged, I reorganized the text and added hierarchy by varying the font size and weight. I also organized the text by the message the brand wanted to communicate. For example, instead of having the honey properties all over the label, I added them all in one place. Information about the manufacturer was placed in another place. I also highlighted the important text and headings by making the text bold where needed.

- Then I added another bee & honeycombs illustration, to separate the text sections and make the label visually appealing.

The new label design ensures that the customer will notice and remember the product while walking past it in the store. Therefore, they will be more likely to complete the purchase.

Final Deliverables:

After the design was created, the project was ready to be delivered. Before submitting the final version of the design, I made sure that the files and Illustrator layers are clean and easy to understand. I also made sure that the exported file matched the original size of the label and that the color profile was appropriate for print (CMYK).

Summary:

The goal of the project was to redesign a honey label, while keeping the original text and info unchanged. The project was completed successfully.
